A nationally syndicated comic strip centered around a high school football coach is slated to introduce a story line later this month in which an Orthodox Jewish player joins the team. The new story line for Gil Thorp, written by Jerry Jenkins — also the name of the fictional head coach in the strip — will explore issues regarding Shabbat observance and religious tolerance.
