A New York lawmaker introduced legislation to create a commission to monitor religious freedom in the U.S. military. Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) introduced a bill Wednesday for a commission that would to include people inside and outside of government. The bill comes amid concerns about religious intolerance at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Israel said the commission would focus on finding how an “appropriate balance may be reached between the personal expression of faith and the constitutional separation of religion and state throughout our military.”
