A plea for the subordination of personal ambitions of various Jewish political factions for the sake of the Zionist ideal was made by Dr. Ira Eisenstein, associate leader of the Society for the Advancement of Judaism, in the first of four lectures yesterday under the auspices of the Hadassah educational committee, at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
“We cannot expect unanimity of opinion in Zionist ideologies,” Dr. Eisenstein declared, “in view of the fact that the Zionist ideal is espoused by world Jewry exposed to the political, economic and religious influences of the various countries represented.
“Indeed in a changing world one universal concept would represent stagnation and sterility. If we are to be statesmanlike and intelligent, we must learn to acknowledge the right to differ while at the same time to subordinate personal ambitions to the will of the majority.
“It would clarify our problems greatly however if each section of the Zionist opinion formulated its principles clearly and concretely and supplemented the statement of their aims with specific programs of political action.”
Mrs. Alice Hartley, chairman of the Hadassah committee, on courses, introduced the lecturer.
