A program that offers young adults free 10-day trips to Israel selected 7,500 people from North America to travel there this winter. The Birthright Israel participants, mostly college students, were selected by lottery from more than 25,000 applicants, more than double the number who applied for the program’s pilot trip last fall. Birthright officials say it is “too early” to determine how, if at all, the recent violence in Israel will affect the trips, which are scheduled to take place in December and January.
