A publishing house in St. Petersburg, Russia, canceled its plants to issue a Russian translation of author Salman Rushdie’s 1989 book “The Satanic Verses.” The decision came one day after Islamic leaders in Russia made an unspecified threat to the publisher if the translation were issued.
