A quota of $100,000 was reached in one hour by the Jewish community of Elizabeth. The goal was extended to $150,000.
The fund is sought to build a Y. M. H. A. building here and for the United Jewish Campaign and the United Palestine Appeal. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, former Governor George S. Silzer and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Kalisch were among the speakers at the dinner launching the campaign.
Rabbi Morris S. Lazaron, of Baltimore, Md. sailed on Tuesday for Europe on the steamship Bremen.
While in Europe Rabbi Lazaron will devote several weeks to study in Berlin and will attend a meeting in London during July of liberal rabbis and Jewish laymen as a representative of the Central Conference of Liberal Jewish Rabbis in America. Rabbi Lazaron is secretary of the Central Conference.
