A record level was achieved this summer when approximately 6000 young people traveled to Israel on programs affiliated with the American Zionist Youth Foundation. The number represents a 50 percent increase over last summer’s total of 4000 as well as an increase of more than 1000 people over AZYF’s previous record total, the agency said. Donald Adelman, AZYF executive director, stated that the rise in numbers is “part of the growing acceptance of trips to Israel as a component in the formation of Jewish identity among young adults.
