A Russian ultranationalist who has often made anti-Semitic statements sent a sympathetic letter to Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar. “I mourn the 6 million Jews who died in the ovens, or were shot in concentration camps,” Vladimir Zhirinovsky wrote. A spokesman for Lazar said the rabbi hopes the letter reflects a “sincere change of heart.”
