A senior Likud official called on Israel not to allow Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin to return to the Gaza Strip. Uzi Landau, the chairman of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said Yassin exploited a trip abroad for medical treatment to drum up support for a terrorist campaign against Israel. Yassin was released from an Israeli jail in October in exchange for the release of two Mossad agents following a failed attempt in Jordan to assassinate a Hamas political leader.
