A strike by Israeli university students entered its sixth week as disagreement over whether to accept a proposal to lower tuition widened a split between student negotiators. The proposal, hammered out with the help of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, would grant partial scholarships to students involved in community service projects. Opponents of the proposal argued that the students should not waver from their demand for a 50 percent reduction in tuition.
