A surprise witness in the Maurice Papon trial told the court she knew little of what had transpired in the former Vichy official’s office. Her testimony had been expected to shed additional light on the World War II activities of Papon, who is charged with allegedly deporting 1,560 Jews during the war. The trial has been interrupted several times because of Papon’s poor health.
