A top European Union official voiced support for Syria’s efforts to regain the Golan Height from Israel. “We would like to work as much as possible to see your country, Syria, recuperate the territory taken in 1967,” E.U. foreign policy chief Javier Solana said Wednesday during a visit to Damascus, referring to the Six-Day War. Israel annexed the Golan in the 1980s, but Jerusalem has hinted it could enter negotiations on returning the territory if Syria stops supporting Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorists.
