A two-hour strike was carried out here this afternoon in which shopkeepers, clerks, laborers and artisans joined as a protest against high rentals in the city.
The strike was also a protest against the sharp practices of the landlords in connection with the Moharrem, the end of a Mohammedan holiday, which is the traditional moving day in Palestine. The end of the Moharrem in mid-April is the customary period here for the renewal of leases.
A mass meeting was held here demanding the abolition of the Moharrem period in Tel Aviv and also legislative curbs against exorbitant rentals.
