A U.S. court issued a nearly $250 million judgment against Iran for its involvement in a 1995 terrorist attack launched by Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip. U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth awarded the family of Alisa Flatow, an American student killed in the attack, $225 million in punitive damages and $22.5 million in compensatory damages. The judgment marks the first time a U.S. court has ruled on an American citizen’s ability to recover damages from foreign nations that support or finance terrorist activities.
