The name of the new Jewish settlement, to be established near here on the land of Migdal Eder which was abandoned soon after the 1929 disturbances, is to be Kfar Etzion.

The “El Hahar” corporation with offices at Tel Aviv, is sponsoring the colony. Each family will have twenty-five dunams of land.

The Jewish Agency Executive, the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Jewish Agency, the Jewish National Fund, and the Government Department of Agriculture are giving advice to promoters.

One of the reservoirs in the present Jerusalem water supply system is on the land, and the promoters hope to be able to use it when the larger Yarkon river pipeline supply to Jerusalem goes into operation. There are two springs and several wells on the property, which insure a good supply for irrigation.

Mr. Holzman, technical director of the colony, is well known for having introduced the Australian pummelo and the pecan nut into Palestine. He is sometimes called “the Palestinian Luther Burbank” because of his successful experiments with fruit on his estate in Rehoboth.
