ABDULLAH SAID HE BASED HIS CONTENTION ON CORRESPONDENCE IN HIS POSSESSION.
SIR HENRY, AS BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR EGYPT, WROTE A LETTER TO THE SHERIF OF MECCA IN 1915, IN WHICH HE PROMISED ON BEHALF OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT THAT ARAB INDEPENDENCE WOULD BE FORWARDED IN EXCHANGE FOR ASSISTANCE IN THE WAR.
BREAKING A 20-YEAR SILENCE ON THE SUBJECT, SIR HENRY IN LONDON LAST FRIDAY DENIED THAT PALESTINE HAD BEEN INCLUDED IN THAT PROMISE. HIS STATEMENT WAS PUBLISHED IN THE TIMES OF LONDON.
