About 25 Jewish activists demonstrated outside the United Nations on Tuesday to protest anti- Israel remarks by the U.N. special envoy for Iraq. The protest was sponsored by Jewish Community Relations Council of New York after Lakhdar Brahimi called Israeli policy “the great poison in the region.” The group held signs saying, “Brahimi: Israel is not your punching bag” and “Brahimi: Your views are poisonous.” The American Jewish Committee also issued a statement Tuesday saying Brahimi’s conduct violated U.N. rules that require officials to refrain from partisan behavior.
