A gift of $2,500 was made by King Tafari Makonen of Abyssinia toward the acquisition of a new home for the American Pro-Falasha School in Addis-Abeba, the capital of his kingdom. His Majesty expressed great interest in the religious and educational activities conducted in behalf of the fifty thousand Falashas in his realm.
Announcement of the gift to Dr. Jacques Faitlovitch, executive director of the work among the Falashas, was made by the American Pro-Falasha Committee in New York.
An Institute on Naturalization Aid will be held in New York City, on Tuesday, May 21st, under the auspices of the Department of Immigrant Aid and Immigrant Education of the National Council of Jewish Women, of which Mrs, Maurice L. Goldman of New York City is National Chairman. Presidents and local Chairmen of Immigrant Aid and Immigrant Education of Council Sections in the States of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey will participate.
The sessions of the Institute will be held at the Lavanburg House, beginning Tuesday morning. The program announced includes the following speakers: Michael Kley. Director, Immigration Bureau, Welfare Division, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; Miss Marian Schibsby, Chief of Bureau of Individual Service. Foreign Language Information Service; and Henry Fruchter. Director, Naturalization Aid League. Mrs. Goldman will preside and Miss Cecilia Razovsky will lead the discussion.
