Academic institutions abroad are requesting samples of a map for the blind designed by a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art, Meir Eshel, The map, currently on display here at the academy’s exhibition of graphic design, is based on the “protrusion principle,” similar to that of braille, in which city streets, alleys and other thoroughfares are projected. Many of the blind who used the map while Eshel was experimenting with the technique said it gave them unhoped-for freedom in becoming oriented. Academic institutions want to explore the possibilities of developing this map on an international scale.
