All seven Israeli universities have agreed with seven French language universities in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick to support the cultural exchange program sponsored by Amitie, the Society for the promotion of cultural relations between Israel and French Canada.
This resolution was announced by the newly-elected co-chairmen of Amitie, Rene J.A. Levesque, dean of the faculty of the arts and sciences of the University of Montreal, and Dr. Stephen Barber, founder of the Canada-Israel Chamber of Commerce, at a meeting at the University of Montreal.
Mordechai Shalev, Israel’s Ambassador to Canada, addressed the audience in French recalling Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s prophecy that “The university will be our spiritual fortress.” (By Michael Solomon)
