The question of how to obtain international action on a convention to eliminate statelessness in the future will be raised at the forthcoming meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva by the Agudas Israel, the organization revealed today. The commission’s sessions start next Monday.
Nearly two and a half years ago, the General Assembly invited all member nations of the UN to consider such a convention and proposed that an international conference of at least 20 states be held to hammer out such a document. However, in the intervening months only 19 states have express d a willingness to participate in such a parley. The Agudah hopes to accelerate the convention of the conference by raising the question at the Human Rights Commission meeting.
