An acute water shortage, resulting from an increase in population and wider distribution to surrounding settlements, has compelled the municipality of Jerusalem to ask a special grant from the government to bring in water in railroad tank cars.

The chief water engineer of the city, M. Leibowitch, will soon leave for the United States in an effort to speed up the sending of adequate pipes for new water installations.
