Albert B. Adelman. United Jewish Appeal national chairman from Milwaukee, has been named chairman of the Absorption Committee of the Jewish Agency, it was announced by Max M. Fisher of Detroit, chairman of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors, at the meeting here of the Board. Adelman, a veteran campaigner. is chairman of the 1974 UJA Study Conference Planning Committee, vice-president of the UJA and a member of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors.
Commenting on Adelman’s appointment, Paul Zuckerman. UJA general chairman, said: “Ollie Adelman is uniquely qualified for this post. Over the many years I have worked with him I have seen his tremendous effectiveness in dealing with the humanitarian problems of new immigrants and immigrants of former years in Israel as they undergo the difficult and complex process of absorption. As chairman of the Absorption Committee, he will be in an even better position to put his considerable talents to work on their behalf; to ensure that they are given all the necessary tools for starting new lives in Israel.”
In his acceptance remarks. Adelman pledged that he world “do my utmost to help improve the absorption services in Israel for new immigrants. They have shown great courage by giving up their past lives to come to Israel. We must show them that we truly welcome them.”
In another action, the Agency’s Board appointed Sam Morgenstern, an international manpower expert; as a permanent advisor for a new project to create job opportunities for college-trained immigrants. Morgenstern. who has held senior posts with the United States government, has already submitted a list of recommendations to the Agency.
