The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith voiced opposition today to proposals to amend the New York State Constitutional provision barring state financial aid to schools sponsored by religious groups.
In testimony before the Temporary New York State Commission on the Revision of the Constitution, Seymour Graubard, chairman of the ADL’s New York board, said that any move to weaken the prohibition against such aid would “open the door to possible weakening of the principle of separation of church and state and would, thereby, be the precursor of possible interference with freedom of religion and further incursions against the strength and integrity of our public school system.”
