The Executive Council of the AFL-CIO today urged the United States government to provide “all necessary assistance” to Israel. “Israel, the only viable democracy in the Middle East, faces economic problems possibly more threatening than the military attacks upon her by her neighbors,” the Council said in a statement issued during its two-day meeting here.
“No nation, however large or small, can survive economic hemorrhage indefinitely without the unstinting support of free nations everywhere. To do less is to encourage the military and economic aggression of Israel’s tormentors, a motley although wealthy band of international brigands. ” Yeruham Meshel, secretary-general of Histadrut, is attending the conference at the invitation of AFL-CIO President George Meany.
