With the Ad Hoc Committee racing to complete general debate during the week-end, the Jewish Agency has entered on what an authoritative source described as the “second phase” of its work here.
Confident that an overwhelming majority of the Ad Hoc Committee will support the partition proposal, the Zionists are now concentrating on the sub-committee which is expected to be created in accordance with a U.S. resolution. A three-man sub-committee of the Agency executive, consisting of Moshe Shertok, Emanuel Neumann and Nahum ##bldmann, has been named to work with the Ad Hoc sub-committee which will decide the ##tal details of the partition plan, including implementation and boundaries.Working under the direction of the Agency sub-committee are three commissions of experts dealing respectively with boundaries and territorial matters; the transition period — transfer of authority, maintaining peace and order and kindred matters; and economics and finance. Material is being prepared for submission to the Ad Hoc sub-committee, on which Arabs and Jews are expected to sit informally, and for other delegations which have asked the Agency for documentary material.
The Americans for Haganah today announced that Bartley C. Crum, former member of the Anglo-American inquiry commission on Palestine, had accepted the chairmanship of its national council. In a statement announcing his acceptance, Crum called for recognition of Haganah as the official army of the projected Jewish state.
