The 35th national convention of the Agudath Israel of America opened here today with more than 1, 000 delegates and guests in attendance. The three-day parley will be addressed by national Orthodox leaders.
A statement issued on the eve of the convention declared that an important phase of the deliberations will be a discussion of “the methods of combatting the new offensive against Torah launched by the Conservative movement at the recent convention of the Rabbinical Assembly.” The administration of the American Agudath Israel Organization will present a course of action “for public clarification on Orthodoxy’s renewed vigorous attempt to safeguard genuine Judaism from a continuous watering-down process by Conservative and Reform leaders under the guise of religion.”
