Orthodox Jews in the United States were urged tonight to “react instantaneously and with dignity whenever the Orthodox position is challenged” in a resolution approved at the opening session of the 36th annual national convention of Agudath Israel of America.
“The bane of Orthodoxy has been the apathetic attitude adopted by many Orthodox Jews who sit by in silence while Judaism is being watered down by pseudo-religious movements,” the resolution added, in asking such Jews “to display a more alert attitude in defending the Torah viewpoint in Jewish life.”
More than 1,000 delegates were attending the convention which will continue through Sunday. The convention will deal with matters affecting Jewish religious life in the United States and in Israel.
