An official of the Agudath Israel of America urged this weekend the adoption of a new cemetery licensing procedure which would forbid the closing of cemeteries in New York State on Sundays as several cemetery managements have proposed.
Testifying at a hearing before the New York State Cemetery Board on the issue, Rabbi Morris Sherer, executive vice-president of the group, said that the closing of cemeteries on Sundays would “infringe on the freedom of religious practice.”
