Delegates to the 41st annual convention of the Agudath Israel of America criticized today “the highly publicized aggressive tactics that various Jewish organizations have adopted in recent months regarding the situation of the Jews in Soviet Russia.”
The issue was considered at a special executive session at which a report was given by Dr. Isaac Lewin, United Nations representative of the ultra-Orthodox group. The delegates called on the Agudath Israel World Organization to continue working in this area in the “traditional discreet manner that such a delicate situation demands.”
Another resolution called on all Orthodox organizations to lay aside ideological differences to cope unitedly with the latest religious tensions in Israel. The delegates elected a six-member presidium, consisting of Rabbis Moshe Feinstein, Mordecai S. Friedman, Moshe Horowitz, Zvi Eisenstadt, Leiser Levine and Benjamin W. Hendles. Rabbi Morris Sherer was re-elected executive vice-president.
