The fifth national convention of the Agudas Israel of America closed today after adopting a resolution demanding the cancellation of the British White Paper “and the establishment of such political conditions in Palestine by the League of Nations or any other international trusteeship that will allow the homeless Jewish masses to immigrate into and live in Palestine in equality with all other inhabitants.” These new political conditions will have to be defined by the Allied nations in joint consultation with Jews and Arabs, the resolution emphasized.
Another resolution says that neither negotiations, nor decisions concerning the future of Palestine “can be considered as legitimate, unless representatives duly authorized by organized orthodox Jewry take part in these negotiations and discussions.” A Jewish state that is not based on foundations of the Torah would mean a denial of Jewish history and of true essence of Jewish nationality and would destroy the basis of national life, the resolution declares.
The convention went on record as urging peaceful understanding and cooperation with the Arabs; upbuilding of the Jewish community in Palestine on the basis of the law of the Torah, and demanding “free Jewish immigration to Eretz Israel as far as the economic capacity of the country allows.”
