Aharon Meskin, considered by many as a giant of the Israeli and Hebrew stage, died this morning at Tel Hashomer Hospital. He was 77. The renowned member of the Habimah Theater was hospitalized several days ago suffering from a heart condition. Mr. Meskin, who was born in Russia, was among the first Jewish stage actors who founded the Habimah Theater in Moscow. He came to Israel in 1928 and appeared as the leading actor in such plays as “The Dybbuk,” “The Golem,” “Othello,” “King Lear,” “Cry the Beloved Country,” and other classical Yiddish and Hebrew plays. He was the recipient of the Ramchal Prize in 1956 and the Israel Prize in 1960.
