The Union of Italian Jewish Communities appealed to world Jewry for help in raising $200,000 needed for repair and reconstruction of communal buildings made useless by flood damage, as well as for aid to individuals. The appeal was issued through the Jewish National Fund, the Joint Distribution Committee, the Keren Hayesod, the World Jewish Congress and the Israeli Embassy in Rome.
Ten students from the Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem are participating in the clearing of flood debris from the Bargello Museum in Florence. At the same time an Israeli air force transport plane brought three tons of medical supplies to aid the stricken Jewish community. The Bezalel students will also help to clean and restore paintings in the Uffizi Gallery which were damaged by the disaster.
