Menachem Begin, who suffered a heart attack early Tuesday morning, has regained consciousness after 20 hours in a coma.
Though still on the critical list, the 78-year-old former prime minister was reported in stable condition Wednesday and showing signs of improvement, according to an official at Ichilov Hospital, now part of the Tel Aviv-Elias Sourasky Medical Center.
Although he cannot speak because of a breathing apparatus, Begin is “aware of and reacting to his surroundings,” Dan Michaeli, the medical center’s director general, told reporters.
