The latest nationwide survey by the American Jewish Congress of current cases involving issues of church-state separation and religious freedom shows that more than half of the 36 pending cases deal with the single question of public aid to church and synagogue school Howard M. Squadron, chairman of the AJCongress’ Commission on Law and Social Action, noted that the 36 cases – In 24 state and 12 Federal courts – comprise the largest number of current lawsuits in the church-state field since his organization Issued its first listing of such suits in January, 1966.
