A copy of a resolution by the Board of Aldermen protesting religious persecutions of Jews and Catholics in Mexico was sent to President Roosevelt yesterday.
The resolution, introduced by Alderman Paul Gallagher of Queens adopted on December 18, calls upon “the United States Government to show its attitude on this momentous question and to repudiate, in some tangible form, the outrageous conduct of the Mexican officials toward freedom of worship, press, assembly and education.”
The clerk of the Board of Aldermen was instructed in the resolution to send copies to the press, President Roosevelt, Congress, Governor Lehman and Mayor La-Guardia.
A similar resolution protesting religious and racial persecutions in Nazi Germany was introduced in the Board of Aldermen and passed in March, 1933.
