Local leaders of all political parties and racial groups today attended funeral services for the late Alfred Markman, Jewish Mayor of Port Elizabeth for the last two years, who died suddenly.
Among the mourners were leaders of the white and the non-white communities, as well as prominent personalities among the English and the Afrikaans residents of Port Elizabeth. Mr. Markman, who had been active in Port Elizabeth politics, was also one of the outstanding leaders in Jewish communal affairs.
