The Moslem members of the Municipal Council of Oran, Algeria, have signed a proclamation calling for peace between the races and religions.
The proclamation says that the Moslem members have learned with regret of the decision of Councillor Ghighi, the only Jewish Municipal Councillor in Oran, not to stand again as candidate in the next election. They assure him of their appreciation of the work he has done for the common good and express the wish that a Jewish candidate with a genuine human and French spirit will be available to fill the vacant position.
Councillor Ghighi has found himself unable to stand for re-election and another Jew, Advocate Karsenty, has been nominated in his place.
