The Official Gazette here today published an ordinance giving local Algerian officials the authority to reopen commercial businesses, industrial plants, “and all other economic enterprises” which have been closed due to the departure of the owners. The local authorities are given the right to appoint temporary administrators for the “abandoned” businesses.
Another decree gives the local authorities the right to requisition apartments and other residences vacant for two months. Still a further Government order announced that persons wishing to emigrate from Algeria must receive official permission to leave.
