The proposed citizenship and naturalization laws for the state of Israel provide for automatic citizenship for every person residing in the Jewish state on the day that the legislation is passed, Minister of Justice Dr. Felix Rosenblueth revealed at a press conference today.
Residents of Israel holding citizenship in other countries will be able to become naturalized citizens by declaring their readiness to accept Israeli citizenship and by renouncing their foreign allegiance, Dr. Rosenblueth stated.
Non-Jews living in Israel, and those resident in areas which may in the future be included in the Jewish state, the Israeli Minister said, are also eligible for Israeli citizenship, Palestinians living abroad who wish to adopt Israeli citizenship will be able to do so within 12 months of the law’s passage, he stated.
