A campaign to raise a million francs in France in aid of the Jewish sufferers in the Ukraine, has been launched here by the Federation of Jewish Relief Organizations of London. The campaign was inaugurated by a special meeting of leaders of the Russo-Jewish colony in Paris, presided over by the Grand Rabbi, Dr. Israel Levi. A report on the present conditions in the Ukraine was delivered by the general secretary of the Federation, A. M. Kaizer, and other speakers were Dr. Leo Motzkin, M. Naiditch, Rabbi Dr. M. Eisenstadt, Baron Alfred de Guntzbourg, Advocate M. Goldstein, Advocate H. Sliosberg, and M. Schalit, treasurer of the Federation. A sum of 100,000 francs was raised at the meeting.
A conference of leaders of the Jewish community was then held at the offices of the Alliance Israelite Universelle, at which the Grand Rabbi also presided. It was resolved there that all possible support be given to the Federation’s campaign, and the Central Committee of the Alliance voted a sum of 100,000 francs toward the funds of the Federation.
