The Allied Jewish Appeal of Philadelphia and the Federation of Jewish Charities of this city merged today and formed the Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia. Philadelphia has the fourth largest Jewish community in the United States.
The president of the new group will be Abraham L. Freedman, former City Solicitor of Philadelphia. The executive director will be Donald B. Hurwitz, Consolidation negotiations, under way for months, reached a climax eight days ago when a Joint Committee on Consolidation–including representatives of both groups–unanimously approved a merger plan and by-laws for the new organization.
