Ambassador Gideon Rafael will be the chairman of the Israel delegation to the United Nations General Assembly which will convene on Sept. 19 and will remain in that post until the end of October when he will return to Jerusalem to assume his new post of Director-General of the Israel Foreign Ministry, it was learned today.
Ambassador Yosef Tekoah, who has been designated as Mr. Rafael’s successor as Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations, will assume that post at the beginning of next year. Ambassador Michael Comay, former head of the Israel delegation, will join the delegation on Mr. Rafael’s departure and will act as its chairman for the duration of the Assembly session. Ambassador Shabtai Rosenne will serve as acting permanent representative of Israel to the United Nations from Mr. Rafael’s departure until the arrival of Mr. Tekoah.
