The newly formed Arts Council of America-Israel Cultural Foundation under the chairmanship of the noted tenor, Jan Peerce, adopted a plan for launching an American-Israel dialogue at its organizing meeting here at America-Israel Culture House. Welcoming the members of the Arts Council, Mr. Peerce stated, “To Israel today, the quality of her life and of her men is crucial. It is, after all, the source of her will to fight on and of her capacity to win out. A continued and healthy cultural and artistic life to Israel in truth is a matter of life or death. It is a tautology that Israel is an immigrant country. Her people come from 100 different countries, with a wide assortment of civilizational baggage, cultural tradition and artistic environment. They are all Israelis, part of the same nation. They must become one people. In Israel, culture and are the chief catalysts of this quickened integrative process.” The Arts Council is to serve as the source of advice and guidance to the Foundation in its efforts to assist uninterrupted artistic and cultural development of Israel. The Council will be relied on by the Foundation to help familiarize Israeli artists with new directions and materials stirring in the art world of the West.
