A demand that the Kanaanim movement in Israel, composed of fanatic youths, should be declared illegal was voiced here today at the convention of the American Agudath Israel Youth Organization. The speaker, Dr. Itzhak Lewin, chairman of the American section of the World Agudas Israel executive, said that the Kanaanim movement must not be tolerated because it constitutes “a revolt against the historic character of the Jewish people.”
Dr. Lewin also told the convention that the Agudas Israel organization may be compelled to leave the coalition cabinet in Israel if the Laborites do “not respect the agreement with regard to the autonomy of religious education and the mobilization of women in the armed services.”
