Graves of all Jewish war dead in Philadelphia will be decorated for Memorial Day, according to plans adopted by Lieutenant Louis Simelson Post, Jewish War Veterans of the United States, at a meeting held at Hotel Commodore last evening. A motor cavalcade of Jewish War Veterans will travel from cemetery to cemetery to place markers and American and Jewish flags on the graves of those war heroes buried within the city limits.
On May 27, special memorial services will be held at the grave of Lieutenant Louis Simelson, in whose memory Post No. 54, Jewish War Veterans, has been named. Members of the post, accompanied by a police escort, will proceed to Har Nebo cemetery and parade to the graveside, where services will begin at 10:30 A. M. Commander Herman Lieberman will read the service and post chaplain Gus Schlachter will deliver a memorial address. A firing squad, furnished by the commander of the Philadelphia navy yard, will fire a salute, and “taps” will be sounded by a bugle corps. Samuel G. Karsover, chairman of the Memorial Day committee, is in charge of the general arrangements.
Following the memorial service, the ladies auxiliary of Lieutenant Louis Simelson Post will serve luncheon to all members of the post at the headquarters of Mid-City Post, American Legion, Thirteenth and Thompson streets. Mrs. Blanche Paster, president of the auxiliary, will be in charge.
