A $2,000 prize for a proposed sculptural monument to be placed in the General Assembly building at United Nations headquarters here was awarded to American sculptor Nathaniel Kaz at a ceremony at the Whitney Museum of American Art last night. The award was made by the National Council for U.S. Art.
Mr. Kaz work is on the theme of beating swords into ploughshares. When the National Council raises $60,000 for the sculpture and a mural, Mr. Kaz will proceed with his work. Mr. Kaz, 38, who has been an instructor in sculpture at the Art Students League in New York since 1948, is associated with several sculptors’ and artists’ federations and has has a number of one-man shows at New York galleries.
