The American Association for the United Nations has decided to observe, in conjunction with the World Federation of United Nations, the tenth anniversary of the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the AAUN announced this week-end.
The anniversary, which falls on December 10, will be marked by a number of community observances throughout the country. In New York, an all-day conference will be held, dedicated to the Declaration and its significance. Speakers will include Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and Mrs. Oswald B. Lord, U. S. delegate to the UN Human Rights Commission.
Jacob Blauste in, honorary chairman of the American Jewish Committee and a former member of the U.S. delegation to the UN, has been named national chairman of the American observance. In a statement here, Mr. Blaustein called for using the anniversary “for a revival of effort to stimulate a greater respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, religion or language, as defined in the (UN) Charter. He called for a “crusade” to extend human rights in all countries.
