Contrioutions from American Jews have made possible the establishment of twenty-four agricultural villages in Palestine since October of last year and will finance the initial costs of construction of fourteen more settlements, “many of them before the report of the United Nations inquiry committee is completed,” Eliezer Kaplan, treasurer of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, who has just arrived in the United States, announced last night at a closed meeting of the board of directors of the United Palestine Appeal.
At the same time, Mr. Kaplan, who is in this country to negotiate American financing of the Jewish Agency’s development plans, disclosed that the British Government and the Jewish Agency have completed negotiations permitting Jewish industrialists in Palestine to purchase immediately an additional $2,000,000 worth of machinery and water pipelines from American manufacturers with funds raised by the U.P.A. “The purchases will be paid for by American gift dollars acezuing to the Jewish Agency, and the industrialists in Palestine will repay the Jewish Agency with British pounds,” Mr. Kaplan said.
