Only small immediate results from the Anglo-American conference on refugees were expected by diplomatic circles here today as the American delegation arrived in Bermuda.
One diplomatic source here pointed out that supply and shipping difficulties lay in the way of any large-scale rescue of victims from Nazi countries. He did not think it would do any good to appeal to the Nazis to release refugees.
A resolution designed to put the United States Senate on record as favoring speedy action on the refugee problem was introduced today by Sen. Edwin C. Johnson of Colorado. The resolution provides that the Anglo-American refugee conference at Bermuda “be advised that the Senate of the United States advocates an immediate and stern policy of action to save the remaining millions of the Jewish people in Europe, and that this humanitarian objective be consummated speedily in a manner that will restore to the helpless victims of Hitler the rights and dignity of a free people.”
